Matalan is a UK retail store that has been in operation since 1985. Currently Matalan has over 220 stores nationwide serving over 12 million UK families every year.
As part of Matalan’s initiative to increase market share in the furniture and homeware categories they launched their first ever Matalan Homestore at their site in Knaresborough.
Matalan were seeking a digital signage solution that would give the store the ‘wow’ factor and increase footfall.
Working with Matalan, Eclipse Digital Media carried out a number of site visits and evaluated several solutions including video walls before an agreement was made that an Indoor LED Wall would deliver the big impact required.
The Indoor LED Wall solution delivered by Eclipse Digital Media measured 4m x 2.3m and comprised of 28 Absen N4 Black LED Modules, a single ONELAN media player and cloud digital signage software; embed signage.
Eclipse Digital Media also installed an Intel NUC with remote management software to remotely maintain the LED software.
Eclipse Digital Media used embed signage, digital signage software for this project. The software means content can be uploaded and designed for the specific resolution of the LED wall and then either published to the display immediately or scheduled to publish at a time when there is more bandwidth available on site.
Eclipse Digital Media also use remote management tools to maintain the hardware including the ONELAN media player and all LED Modules. This provides Matalan with a fully supported digital signage solution they can rely on.

PRIME BURGER – DIGITAL MENU BOARDS
“Our store at ExCel has been in the same position in the boulevard since 2009. Last year we reconfigured it a little.. Out went our flat, white, static printed boards that weren’t eye catching, and in came the new displays, which have proved a great investment. Since we have installed the screens at ExCeL, we’ve seen an increase in like-for-like sales of 50% and a lot of that is to do with the screens, without a doubt.”
Sam Steele, Director, Prime Burger
Prime Burger, which has outlets in St Pancras International Station, Euston Railway Station and ExCel London international conference centre, grew as part of the street food movement. Prime Burger started life serving high quality burgers at events and festivals, including Lords cricket, Glastonbury, The Chelsea Flower Show and the London 2012 Olympic Games, and now focuses its efforts on retail outlets rather than events, Guaranteeing customers receive a great burger in under eight minutes.
Prime Burger was investing in refurbishing its retail outlets to enhance the customer experience. As part of the refresh of these stores, Prime Burger wanted to make their menus very easy to navigate. They also wanted the menus to be very image-led, so they commissioned professional photography of all of their food. The aim was to install something into the stores to help show these images off to entice customers and Digital Signage was the chosen method.
“We didn’t want paper or card menus. We had previously used big printed boards that were above head height and were difficult to swap round every day, when changing from breakfast to lunch menus. They also didn’t have the visual impact necessary to really grab people’s attention.” – Sam Steele, Director, Prime Burger
Working with Prime Burger from start to finish, Eclipse Digital Media constructed a digital menu board solution that matched Prime Burgers needs in every respect. The solution installed consisted of a range of Samsung Smart Signage Platform displays (various sizes) paired with the cloud based digital signage software, embed signage.
“After consulting with Eclipse Digital, we put in five 48” displays at St. Pancras, which we arranged in portrait orientation. We also put in three 48” displays at ExCel, but in a landscape arrangement, while we put in four 32” displays at Euston as the ceiling is so low there isn’t enough space for the larger screens” – Sam Steele, Director, Prime Burger
Eclipse Digital Media used embed signage, cloud based digital signage software for this project. Eclipse Digital developed the digital menu board templates for Prime Burger on embed signage using a combination of the graphics and menu data updated via an Excel spreadsheet. Changes can be made almost instantly to any of the screens and schedules are configured to automatically switch menus at specific times of the day.
“Eclipse Digital remotely update the content on the displays in each of our stores… it’s a really painless process, and all we have to worry about is updating the artwork.” –
Sam Steele, Director, Prime Burger
The menu board solution installed has made a significant impact on the business. Customers are drawn in by the high quality imagery and sales have been positively impacted as a result.
