CLIENT BACKGROUND

Wembley Park is undergoing a major transformation and fast becoming North-west London’s go-to visitor destination and digital signage is playing a key role in the transformation. The Wembley Park redevelopment is being completed by property development and investment company, Quintain. The project has seen £2bn investment to date and once complete will boast 8.8 million sq ft of mixed-use development, 8,400 new homes and a 7 acre park.

About Quintain
Established in 1992, Quintain brings property and places to life through investment and development. Our most famous project is Wembley Park, covering approximately 85 acres of land around the UK’s largest National Stadium in North West London. To date Quintain have completed more than 3,000 homes and mixed use development at Wembley Park, including London’s first outlet centre which now attracts 7 million visitors a year. This year Quintain will have 3,000 homes under construction on this site, with outline consent in place for the delivery of a further 3,000. Previously, Quintain were instrumental in the conception of Greenwich Peninsula, a 15,000-home development around The O2 in South East London that is now controlled by Knight Dragon.

About Wembley Park
Wembley Park is a dynamic new cultural neighbourhood being created in North West London. Building on the international reputation for music and sporting events for which the area is known, Wembley Park is fast becoming a landmark destination with culture, entertainment and a community at its heart. It includes homes, shops, and places to work, as well as attractive public spaces, with parks and gardens adding to the squares and wide boulevards already created. When completed, nearly half of the 85-acre site will be open space.

CHOSEN FOR EXPERTISE

Through a comprehensive tender process, Quintain carefully evaluated various suppliers and selected Eclipse Digital Media to undertake a variety of work as part of the transformation.

Work commissioned and completed includes an LED digital transformation of the Bobby Moore Bridge, LED totems on Olympic Way and White Horse Square plus a variety of digital signage for Europe’s first multi-storey coach park; the Pink Car Park

“The digital signage projects we’ve commissioned with Eclipse Digital have required collaboration with many different contractors, architects and planning teams. Eclipse Digital have been fully co-operative from start to finish. The overall professionalism from Eclipse Digital has been outstanding”
Ahmed Barkatali, Senior Project Manager, Quintain

“We commissioned some of the projects with quite tight timescales for completion due to upcoming events and Eclipse Digital have delivered for us every time.”

BOBBY MOORE BRIDGE

Overview

The Bobby Moore Bridge underpass is the pedestrian route into Wembley Park from Wembley Park Underground Station where visitors walk along Olympic Way to venues and visitor attractions such as the iconic Wembley Stadium, The SSE Arena Wembley, London Designer Outlet and Troubadour Theatre. Named after the legendary England player, it was dedicated in 1993 following his death. This space was identified as a vital / flagship area to improve throughout the redevelopment of Wembley Park.

One of the key benefits and main objectives of the upgrade is to allow cohesive day-to-day experiences along with temporary commissions from designers and artists both internationally and from the local community.

Technology

This bridge has been digitally enhanced with LED screens and lighting system all connected to offer a fully integrated digital walkway to and from Wembley Park. The system includes over 100m2 Absen XD6 LED panels in two high-resolution outdoor LED configurations, fitted to the northern and southern parapets of the bridge. Under the bridge, there are a series of LED lights behind diffuse glass panels to create a ‘dot’ effect, in keeping with the original tile artwork at the site, and finally, low resolution LED strips have been spread out across the ceiling in linear rows.

Technology used on Bobby Moore Bridge includes:

Stadium Side LED

Station Side LED

Pedestrian underpass

Implementation

The project commissioned by Quintain at Wembley Park was designed by architects Dixon Jones and managed by The Light Lab. Lighting design company Speirs & Major provided the design architecture for the pedestrian underpass and Eclipse Digital Media provided the LED Digital Signage design, software and installation for the sides of the bridge.

Eclipse Digital worked with Quintain, Dixon Jones and The Light Lab to deliver the digital signage expertise required to successfully achieve the Bobby Moore Bridge upgrade. Being involved in the early phases on development and planning meant Eclipse Digital were able to complete the Absen LED installation within two weeks of starting works on site.

Software

embed signage is the digital signage software that brings the entire digital experience together on the Bobby Moore Bridge. embed signage is used to run the primary content on both Absen LED walls while also providing TCP commands to control the brightness levels of the panels based on an Astronomical clock, keeping in line with the site wide digital brightness policy. embed signage can also be used to run content underneath the bridge on the lighting technology, providing an option for Wembley Park to run content both on and under the bridge in a truly immersive digital experience.

“The solution provided by Eclipse Digital has dramatically improved the aesthetics of the main arrival point to the estate. It presents us with a range of new opportunities and gives all our partners enhanced coverage on the estate. One of the really impressive opportunities presented with the solution, is the ability to offer full digital takeovers for the bridge – that includes content on the large LEDs as well as the walls and ceiling of the underpass.”
Matt Simkin, Commercial Manager, Wembley Park

Benefits

One of the key benefits and main objectives of the upgrade is to allow cohesive day-to-day experiences along with temporary commissions from designers and artists. To launch the Bobby Moore Bridge digital transformation, architectural design collective miramandtom were commissioned to carry out a bespoke artistic installation. Their work, entitled Crossover, reflects the complex makeup of the community that live and pass through Wembley Park everyday.

WHITE HORSE SQUARE & OLYMPIC WAY

Overview

Considered the main public entrance to Wembley Park, Olympic Way runs from Wembley Park underground station to Wembley Stadium. Here, the first full wrap LED totem has been installed.

On a primary entrance route to Wembley Stadium, White Horse Square provides the pathway for visitors from Wembley Stadium train station to Wembley Park and the Stadium.

To give directional information and key messaging several outdoor full wrap LED totems have been erected standing 9m and 5m tall.

The totem structures were designed, built and installed by Astley Signs including the concrete plinths and wayfinding glass. Working together with Astley Signs, we were able to collaboratively ensure the entire structure was purposefully built for installing the LED and all necessary components.

Technology

The totem structures measure a grand 44m2 and 28m2 with Absen LED covering all four sides of the structure. These full wrap portrait orientated LED totems have significant presence and comprise of:

Software

embed signage is used to run the primary content on all LED totems while also providing TCP commands to control the brightness levels of the panels based on an Astronomical clock, keeping in line with the site wide digital brightness policy. Content between the totems can be sync’d using software features within embed signage, giving Wembley Park an option to create experiences combining all totems.

PINK COACH & CAR PARK

Overview

The Pink Coach and Car Park at Wembley Park is Europe’s first multi-storey coach and car park developed by Quintain and Huber Car Park Systems. It’s a multi-award winner and features two parking levels for coaches, as well as a five-storey car park. The suspended deck also allows for the positioning of broadcasting vehicles for Wembley Stadium.

Digital signage was required to provide ever changing, event specific information including directional information, promotions and parking details. A mix of signage was required to meet the project requirements.

https://youtu.be/YmF8MN23rYk

Technology

This site uses digital signage in a variety of places. Upon the main vehicle entrance there is an IP65 rated high bright outdoor display and bespoke manufactured totem enclosure. At various locations around the parking areas there are 55″ high bright, IP65 rated displays in both portrait and landscape orientations. Inside the lower level staircase there is a 10m2 Absen LED display providing unmissable messaging for crowd management and directional messages for event days as well as advertising opportunities.

Technology used throughout the Pink Coach and Car Park includes:

Custom Totem

As part of the project, an entrance signage display was required to display parking tariff and driver guidance to visitors. This information would change regularly and due to the placement and parking location identification required, a custom built totem was needed.

Working with our engineering partners, we were able to design and build a custom white portrait totem with pink ‘P’ identification symbol embedded. This totem houses an IP65 high bright display running embed signage software allowing Wembley Park the ability to update the content exactly as required.

They have been truly excellent in terms of sharing their technical expertise, software training, troubleshooting and the team are on call at all times to ensure the solution is properly maintained.

The software (embed signage) we use to control the content is superb. It gives us the ability to add rules to our campaigns for when they should play as well as scheduling different layouts for specific event days. Not only is it great for content management, the software allows us to control the LED brightness through adhoc or scheduled commands. We are also able to sync brightness control to an Astronomical clock, aligning with our site wide policy to ensure night time residential amenity is appropriately protected.

We recommend Eclipse Digital without hesitation”

Solution to Support Mental Health and Wellbeing

CLIENT

You would be forgiven for thinking you have stepped into a luxury, 5 star hotel when you arrive on the first floor of Ealing Cross to the Clarendon Business Centres. The business hub comprises of more than 47 separate furnished office spaces, 3 meeting rooms and a dedicated member’s business lounge, known as The Dock Club.

The Dock Club has plenty of luxurious seating, private meeting pods, complimentary newspapers, daily breakfasts and an open bar every Thursday and Friday from 3.30pm. It’s a fantastic space to do business from.

ASSESS

Keeley Fox Interior Design was approached by Clarendon Business Centres to turn a standard looking office space in to an thriving environment that would capture the imagination of both visitors and clients alike.

As part of this conceptual space, Keeley Fox and Clarendon Business Centre’s were seeking a digital solution for a meditation space that would allow people to take time to focus on and improve their mental health and wellbeing. This is when they approached Eclipse Digital Media to assist in delivering the solution for a ‘Zen Room’.

PROJECT

Hardware

Eclipse Digital Media were delighted to be involved in such a purposeful project, with many of our staff understanding the importance and benefits of meditation and some who practice regularly. The Zen Room solution included three elements. 1) A non-interactive 10″ POE Samsung Smart Signage Display mounted in a custom enclosure outside the Zen Room. 2) A touch interactive, commercial grade, AOPEN 10″ Chromebase Mini mounted inside the Zen Room for users to configure their sessions. 3) embed signage – the cloud based digital signage software to deliver the content.

Both hardware products provide 24/7 commercial grade quality. The 10″ touch tablet runs ChromeOS and delivers an exceptional smooth experience for the user.

Content

Keeley Fox had provided a brief of the concept and tasked Eclipse Digital with the design. First Eclipse Digital took care of wireframing the touch solution (UI), ensuring all functionality met the client’s need.

Once signed off, Eclipse Digital progressed to the Design phase. Taking inspiration from colour and image psychology studies, the design highlighted the key user interactions while maintaining an overall impact of calm and relaxation.

Finally, with the design and functionality signed off, Eclipse Digital progressed to developing the solution and testing before deployment.

The functionality of the solution includes a touch interface inside the Zen Room where a user can set a timer for their session. Once the session begins, the timer begins counting down with audio cues to announce the time remaining at set intervals. Finally once the session is complete, a chime is sounded and the device returns to an available state to start a new session. When the room is available, the outside screen will display a welcome message to show it’s available. When a session is underway, the touch UI triggers a timer and the ‘booked’ status on a device outside of the room.

Install

Eclipse Digital installed the solution on site including the design and development of the 10″ outside screen enclosure to keep in line with the high level interior design of The Dock Club.

CLIENT BACKGROUND

Kings Place is an independently-funded arts and conference venue in the heart of Kings Cross. Their programme is as diverse, engaging and innovative as the city it’s based in. Kings Place provide a diverse offering of music, spoken word, festivals, comedy and visual art.

UNDERSTANDING THEIR NEEDS

Eclipse Digital Media began working with Kings Place in 2014, where the initial requirement was to migrate from an existing digital signage platform to a new, technically strong and feature rich platform. Over a period of ongoing consultation consisting of various on site meetings, product demonstrations and phone calls, Kings Place were able to identify their digital signage requirements clearly and outline exactly what was most important to them in terms of the new system and display solutions.

Kings Place required an on-premise signage solution with the ability to support live network broadcast streams from events. They also wanted a ‘big impact’ signage solution for their reception space to replace the manual wooden boards.

“Eclipse Digital presented expert knowledge with the ONELAN solution and understood our requirements and objectives perfectly”

Chris Phillips, ICT Director, Kings Place

INSTALL

Digital Signage System

After a consultation period and various product demonstrations and evaluations, Eclipse Digital Media helped Kings Place to settle on using a ONELAN digital signage system.

This system includes an on-premise Content Management Server (CMS) along with a number of Subscriber NTBs some of which include stream-in licenses to decode and display UDP streams broadcast on the Kings Place network.

The subscribers are connected to various displays around the building utilising the existing screen hardware available.

Reception LED Wall

Initially Kings Place specified a video wall requirement for the Reception area to deliver their ‘big impact’. With the dimensions available and desire for making a maximum impact to visitors, Eclipse Digital spent time proposing a variety of video wall solutions along side an LED Narrow Pixel Pitch Video Wall.

To help convince Kings Place LED was the right product for them, Eclipse Digital worked with PSCo to arrange an on site demonstration day where a 3.2mm and 2.4mm pixel pitch Absen LED panels were set up and Kings Place staff were invited to view and examine in detail. After this demo day, Kings Place agreed LED was exactly the right product and opted for the 2.4mm pixel pitch LED panels.

The solution installed was 30 Absen N2 panels covering 2.8m x 1.73m and offering a resolution of 1200 x720. This was installed with a bespoke mount and side framework, along with a light sensor to automatically modulate the brightness of the LED.

Eclipse Digital Media installed all the controllers, remote management computer, digital signage player and light sensor kit within a wall mounted data cabinet in an alcove area behind reception. Eclipse Digital Media also manufactured and installed the alcove door system with integrated light sensor.

RESULTS

“When we opened doors in 2008, the original design team had implemented a digital signage platform already. Although at the time, this system proved to be okay, technology in this area of the market was growing rapidly and it became obvious that the Windows based system was soon becoming outdated and unable to support modern video codec standards. As part of our review into potential replacement platforms, we spend time at conferences such as ISE in Amsterdam to compare the market in which more modern Linux based systems were becoming more common.

We first met Eclipse Digital Media when one of our companies, Green and Fortune were looking for a retail screen for their new events space for their new head office within the venue. Through our experience working with Eclipse, along with our growing relationship with Chris Wood at ONELAN, we opened discussions about the possibility to migrate our signage system to ONELAN in phases. Eclipse Digital presented expert knowledge with the ONELAN solution and understood our requirements and objectives perfectly, as such we soon progressed with a partial introduction as a proof of concept. This proved very quickly to be the right solution and we decided to replace the whole of C-Nario with ONELAN and never looked back.

In the middle of 2017, the Executive Chair of Kings Place Music Foundation, Managing Director and I discussed options to digitise the area behind the welcome desk as part of a venue wide digital upgrade. We outlined our ambitions with Eclipse Digital (as well as some other AV companies) and they came forward with a number of very well considered ideas, including the possibility of building a dedicated LED wall. Because there were uncertainties of this technology, Eclipse Digital arranged with their distributor to bring in two different versions of the Absen LED panels, one with a better pixel pitch, so that we could test the technology against our own content whilst pointing venue lighting on them to test against ambient lighting. This proved to absolutely be the right solution for us and everyone involved bought into the solution. Once this decision was made, Eclipse Digital were fantastic at their delivery and the system has proven to be robust and exactly what we wanted. We’d recommend their services to anyone!”

INSTALL

The Solution

Working with apetito from start to finish on the digital transformation, Eclipse Digital delivered a complete digital experience using a variety of technology.

apetito wanted key areas of their visitor centre to offer different customer experiences and therefore required different technologies to be combined. The key areas were: reception, customer waiting area, farmers market, boardroom, kitchen and dining room.

What was provided was the full solution including consultation, hardware, software, installation, content, support and maintenance.

Reception & Waiting Area - iPads and SoC Displays

As the saying goes, first impressions count. This critical area needed to provide a first impression of a forward thinking brand while achieving practical purpose. Behind the main reception desk sits a Samsung Tizen SoC display which runs latest news, time , date, weather content along side any special welcome messages for guests.

Once the guests are signed in and waiting for their host, there is a waiting area with free drinks and snacks. There is a table with four iPads which has buttons to activate various websites all restricted to specific domains using the Whitelist Browser plugin for embed signage. Also in this area sits another Samsung Tizen SoC display which alongside the latest news, time, date and weather there is an area where a Freeview TV feed is displayed. This is done using the Source Input widget for embed signage.

Farmers Market - Place & Learn with 55" Touch

apetito wanted to give customers a real hands on experience and opted for a 55″ ViewSonic touch screen which runs content where customers can browse apetito’s supplier chain.

Making this area even more hands on and immersive is the use of RFID Place and Learn technology. Using an Intel NUC PC, RFID sensors and tags and the embed signage RS232 plugin, various produce can be picked up from the shelving or crates and placed on the shelf below the touch screen to activate content related to the produce.

Kitchen - Product API JSON Feed with 55" Touch

The 55″ Viewsonic touch screen with Windows OPS slot in PC runs content that is pulled directly from apetito’s Product API via JSON. Using the Dynamic Data plugin for embed signage, apetito’s produce api JSON feed has been configured to allow any field of data to be used within the embed signage layout builder. From here, Eclipse Digital Media built the touch screen content where users can browse the products apetito offer via categories. apetito also have the ability to specify which products are shown / excluded by entering the relevant product codes to appear for the relevant categories. There is also an section which shows ‘Today’s Menu’ which also links through to the products nutritional information pulled from the same feed.

Boardroom - 86" Touch

In the visitor centre boardroom, installed at the head of the room is an 86″ Viewsonic touch screen with slot in PC on a BTECH pop out bracket. This touchscreen is the perfect technology for apetito who regularly use the built in white board features when holding meetings with clients. The screen also has Barco Clickshare attached to allow users to wirelessly present from their device to the display.

Dining Room - Video Walls

Providing the wow-factor in the dining room are two video walls configured in 3×3 and 4×3. These video walls saturate the room with apetito’s vibrant content which is used to create a ‘real-world’ effect for the visitors. By changing the content to match various environments and the type of customer, visitors are forgiven for thinking they are dining on the busy sun-soaked streets of Barcelona rather than apetito’s Trowbridge HQ.

The video walls are also multi purpose, being used for presentations which are wirelessly presented from devices using Clickshare.

The video walls make use of Philips 55″ commercial 3.5mm bezel to bezel panels, iBase commercial media players and BTECH pop-out brackets giving a beautiful and practical video wall solution.

iPad Control

Using the device interactions plugin for embed signage, apetito have created a touch layout which is used to activate various content on any screen within the visitor centre. The apetito host uses the ‘Host App’ layout on an iPad Pro to trigger the content to match. The host app layout and commands sent to devices to change content is all managed and updated using embed signage.

z

Audio

In some of the key areas, audio was an essential part of the overall experience to fully immerse the customers. Using JBL pendant speakers or ceiling mounted speakers and apart rack mounted amplifiers, various inputs are taken in from the video walls, farmers market screen, customer waiting area and boardroom and resonated through to the applicable areas.

Software

apetito use embed signage to run content across the entire visitor centre. The software allows apetito to combine various technology, operating systems and platforms to deliver a unified customer experience. Using the standard features allows apetito to build touch content and playlist of multiple media types including widgets very easily. Then by using embed signage’s suite of plugins they can perform specific task such as the secure browser iPads, RFID / RS232 place and learn, JSON Product API feed touch layout and iPad host app to trigger content on any screen.
