The creative home aims the growth of cultural legacy by increasing its capacity to import. and export high quality performers of a world class calibre. In late 2021, Eclipse were asked to quote for the design, bracketry and installation of an outdoor screen mounted to the side of the JVC building. Working alongside Eco Electrical, a 2x4m LED screen was finalised in time for the grand opening.

“The digital sign truly brings our establishment to life during performances.

It is a delightful way to showcase our work and it adds an enchanting touch. tothe building.”

Amy Bevan, Administrator, Jasmin Vardimon Company.

Installation

The installation process took only a matter of days, however these had to be staggered to work alongside multiple contractors from groundworkers to electricians. We worked alongside Carm Precision, to design, manufacture and install bespoke fixings and bracketry. The first step was to fix around the steel box section of the building, meaning this had to be done prior to the cladding. Once this step was completed we had to wait for the panelling to be finished and then we could continue. Next was the framework, which again was designed and manufactured by Carm Precision. It then took three engineers two days to complete the installation of the brackets, panels and modules. The power was passed through the building and into a comms cabinet located inside. The cabinet holds an LED controller, media player and multi function box. The multi function box is connected to a light sensor, located on the side of the screen, to adjust the brightness depending on the ambient lighting.

Engineers

A combination of four engineers carried out the entire project, from the initial site visit and structural conversations to the on-site installation and screen configuration. All of our engineers are IPAF certified, permitting them to control the powered access equipment, such as scissor lifts and cherry pickers, required for the installation. Due to this being a building site for the majority of our tenure, our CSCS certifications were also requested.

Software

embed signage was selected to deliver the content to the LED display. Running on a Windows media player, the custom resolution of the LED display can be set optimising the content. Using the WYSIWYG layout builder, multi-zoned, multi-media layouts can be designed easily. Advanced scheduling capabilities allow rules to be set, allowing different content to be shown depending on conditions such as date, time, weather conditions and temperature, amongst others.

“The digital sign serves to display Jasmins’ work, as well as any upcoming performances or events. It ultimately showcases dance trailers, posters and the company logo, making the building easily recognisable for people to locate us.

The content is uploaded upon the request of Jasmin or member of the production team and after a few trials & errors, we have found the system quite easy and clear.

Eclipse have been exceptionally responsive whenever we have encounted issues or uncertainty. They promptly assist us and have been instrumental is helping us address any needs that occur.”

Hardware

Digital signage is not just restricted to wall-mounted landscape screens. We have installed screens in multiple orientations and a variety of configurations. Interactive touchscreens and freestanding totems have also been used for a more engaging customer experience.

Multi-output

In the majority of the reception areas, Barnsley wanted a standout solution to welcome their customers into a professional facility. We have installed a multi-output media player which connects to a number of screens and combines them into one canvas, allowing for a more impactful solution with the content shown across all of the screens at once.

Installation

Installing in different sites, with different needs meant each installation site was unique. Commercial grade components were used, including a single rail solution, capable of mounting upto 6 screens, as well as all cable management and strategic placement of the freestanding totems.

Software

We also supplied the cloud-based, embed , software to allow the content to be managed remotely from a central location. The ability to publish content to a variety of operating systems with different resolutions and orientations makes updating content easy.

“The CMS software is quick, intuitive and straightforward to understand, even to some of our execs with limited experience with previous content management systems.”

Content

Using the embed software, generic content alongside location specific information and timetables can be published from a single place. Advanced scheduling capabilities ensure the most relevant content is being displayed at the correct times, whether that be dependent on the date, time or even weather conditions.

easy to manage CMS

CLIENT BACKGROUND

Dr Juice is a local brand, situated in Malta, inspired by healthy living and is now one of Malta’s most loved brands. Famous for their nutritious, fresh-fruit smoothies and balanced meals, made from well-sourced, fresh ingredients.

Founded in 2004 by John Winfield after he arrived on the island and was quick to discover a lack of accessible healthy products for people on the go. John travelled the world to become a master in juicing and healthy food and returned after discovering the finest flavours, fruits and vegetables.

ECLIPSE ON THE MOVE

Located on a small island, Dr Juice were unable to find a suitable digital signage supplier. They turned to the world renowned search engine and came across Eclipse.

After initial discussions and consultations, an on site visit was required. Eclipse were happy to visit the small island, just south of Italy, to meet the Dr Juice team face to face. Assistance with installing and setting up of their digital menus was carried out, as well as training to use the embed software.

A journey across the Mediterranean was more than worth it.

“We are planning on introducing digital menu boards into all of our outlets, and with the help of Eclipse, we found it very straightforward.” Olivia Sike, Brand & Marketing Manager, Dr Juice

PIAZZETTA & PAMA SITES

Solution

With new sites being constructed, Dr Juice were looking to upgrade and move away from their static paper menus. The new sites were a great opportunity to start fresh and install digital menu boards.

Hardware

A digital menu board solution was offered using 5 x 43″ Samsung SSP displays. The all-in-one displays run the embed software using the internal media player, meaning no other hardware was required. They also offer a brighter panel and constant 24/7 use, enticing customers in for a closer look.

Installation

To guarantee an easy, and level installation, we recommended a ceiling hung, single rail solution. The total width of the digital menu board is roughly 4.5m, so getting the screens level with each other is essential to the overall viewing experience. Two lightweight aluminium rails are joined together and hung from the ceiling, where the screens are mounted using brackets that sit into the groove of the rail.

Software

With multiple stores, updating content is now easy and instaneous from a single place, thanks to embed software. embed allows any user to create, manage and update content remotely from any web browser and publish to the different sites. Scheduling content was also key, with Dr Juice having separate menus for different times of the day, which is done by adding conditional play rules to their content.
“Using the digital menus, we can now showcase a wider variety of our products and show additional offers, which promotes sales.” Olivia Sike, Brand & Marketing Manager, Dr Juice

Portsmouth International Port & Portico

huge impact

CLIENT BACKGROUND

Portsmouth has a rich maritime heritage and has been known for its naval links and ocean going trade for centuries, with Portsmouth International Port being in operation since 1976.

Owned and operated by Portsmouth City Council, the port initially offered a single route to France. It is now known as Britain’s Best Connected Port with more destinations than any other port in the UK, and an estimated annual footfall of two million passengers and over 250,000 units of freight.

Eclipse Digital Media came through a comprehensive tender process, in which they were selected to undertake the entire project, beating off competition from a nationwide selection of other AV specialists.

REQUIREMENTS

“The purpose of updating our digital signage was to enable more efficiency and be able to share more effective information to our passengers, beyond our standard arrival and departure schedules.”

– Joe Jordan, Duty port operations manager, Portsmouth International Port

“Eclipse Digital Media were a dream to work with and adhered to our strict arrival & departure schedules to ensure there were no disruptions to our services.”

Joe Jordan, Duty port operations manager, Portsmouth International Port.

Video Walls

A video wall consisting of 9 x 55″ video wall screens is the main attraction as you walk through the terminal doors. Video wall screens were also used for 5×1 and 3×1 configurations above the check in desks and kiosks. The content on the video walls is published from multi output and single media players using embed signage software, with the main video wall usually displaying live IPTV for passenger entertainment.

Tablet & Departure Desk

Security personnel are able to change content on the three separate departure screens from the tablet on their counter. They are able to change times, destinations, images and entire layouts on any one of the screens by simply selecting them on the tablet.

Outdoor Displays

IP65 rated outdoor displays have also been installed ensuring passengers have access to vital information at all times. A portrait display is located on the entrance to the terminal displaying travel and safety information whereas another outdoor screen, on the veranda, also shows live TV.

Internal Screens

7 additional displays are installed around the terminal, with 3 upstairs in the cafe and waiting area. A freestanding totem is located downstairs in the main terminal along with the other 3 screens, all displaying information published from embed signage.
E

IPTV

Every screen around the terminal, including the outdoor displays and the video wall, are able to show Freeview DVB-T channels as part of the digital signage. Eclipse scoped, supplied and installed an Encoded Media IPTV Server and receivers to accomplish this.

Software

embed signage was selected to deliver the content to the displays. With the port requiring different hardware options in a variety of configurations, embed’s ability to publish content to a variety of operating systems is just what was needed.

Multiple media types and features are used throughout the site, including images, videos, live data feeds, live TV and device interactions. This allows the screens to communicate, inform, entertain or educate the passengers all around the site.

Portico is a deep water cargo terminal, located within Portsmouth International Port, which handles sea freight from ship to shore. The site also has temperature controlled warehousing with capacity of around 11,000 pallets with each warehouse having their temperatures range from 1℃ to 20℃

Eclipse Digital Media have installed a 4.8mm pixel pitch, outdoor LED screen to inform the cargo vehicles entering the terminal. The content, whether that be general information, directions or live TV, is all controlled through embed signage.

The LED panels were mounted using a bespoke mounting solution, designed and put together by Eclipse. All power and data cables are run back to the security hut behind, so everything is controlled by security personnel.

Internally, 12 Samsung Smart Signage displays have been installed used mainly for employee communications. Using embed signage, the employee communications can also be shown alongside live TV and general information such as time, date, weather and RSS feeds.

Similar to Portsmouth International Port, an Encoded Media IPTV server and receivers were supplied and installed to deliver freeview TV across the Portico network. The main reason behind this extra was the desire to show the 2020 European Football Championships.

CHOSEN FOR EXPERTISE

Krispy Kreme have been driven towards a digital transformation for years and tasked their IT solution provider Theravada to help achieve this. After verifying Eclipse Digital’s services and valuing the expertise offered by the team, Theravada sub-contracted Eclipse Digital to provide a variety of Digital Signage services including hardware architecture, supply and commissioning, LED installation and ongoing support.

DIGITAL MENU BOARDS

Overview

Krispy Kreme have been rolling out digital menu boards to their nationwide Theatre stores, Fresh shops, Rockets and Drive Thrus. The digital menus come in various configurations including:

  • Single screen landscape / portrait
  • 5×1 portrait
  • 3×1 landscape
  • 2×1 portrait
  • Video walls
  • Large stretched screens
  • Shelf edge displays

Theravada provide the full solution to Krispy Kreme with the screen technology, installation services and support. The media player hardware supply, commissioning and software support is sub-contracted to Eclipse Digital.

Software

embed signage is the digital signage software used throughout the Krispy Kreme estate. The software includes functionality to sync content, integrate external systems such as LED lighting and for devices to trigger content on other devices… plus many more features which Krispy Kreme use depending on the store and customer experience required.

The menu board content consists of a combination images and menu pricing along with animated promo sections, some animations covering just one screen, others covering small sections of a screen. At specific intervals, the entire menu board (2×1, 3×1, 5×1 configurations) will show a take over that goes over all screens making a huge visual impact.

“The main reason for choosing embed is the user experience. Based on the others I have seen on the market this is by far the best. Not only visually but intuitively too. On top of that, the features are extensive and the support from the team is second to none”

GEN8 CABINETS

Overview

Krispy Kreme were looking to make fundamental changes to how the doughnuts were presented and sold in-store at partner sites such as Tesco and Welcome Break, through the introduction of digital technology to their cabinets. The new digital cabinets, dubbed ‘GEN8 cabs’ (being the 8th generation of the sales cabinets), were set to be unique, groundbreaking and ultimately a tool for increasing sales.

“The initial trial in 15 Tesco stores has gone very well and we are now pleased to continue the rollout into many more”
Suk Nicholas, Sales Director, Krispy Kreme UK

Technology

Each cabinet has digital header screens (one front 37″, one left 21″, one right 21″), which are used to reinforce key brand messages such as ‘Made Fresh Daily’ as well as providing specific tailored content depending on the store, the time of day, and the season.

There is a 15” HD display mounted internally which is used to deliver brand messages and promotion material such as ‘how it’s made’ films along with ‘Buy a Dozen’ promotions.

The cabinets also include digital shelf edge labels (SELs) which are used to display attractor loops (e.g. a waterfall of doughnuts) to catch the eye of customers, as well as full product ingredient specs, enabling customers to easily check for any allergens.

Presence sensors are used to detect when human presence is within a specific area in front of the cabinet. This triggers content to change on the SELs, which switch from a waterfall of doughnuts to fixed product information in order for the customer to make their purchase decision.

Finally, the cabinets include an LED light strip at the bottom which illuminate the floor below giving off a ‘floating’ effect. The colour can be changed to match the content and brand messaging for example, when running the Valentine’s campaign, the colour theme on screen was red so the LED strip was changed to red to match.

All of the content, sensor parameters, triggers and LED strip colours are controlled via one cloud based digital signage software; embed signage.

HOT NOW COUNTDOWN

Overview

At Krispy Kreme’s Westfield Stratford location, there was a requirement to bring the ‘Hot Now’ Doughnut theatre to life and deliver a real spectacle for the customer.

Doughnuts are made fresh on site every day and come out hot ready to eat. To bring more theatre to this, Krispy Kreme wanted a countdown experience to build excitement to when the hot doughnuts would be ready.

Technology

It all starts with a 10″ touch screen tablet where staff on site can activate the Hot Now countdown. They press a button on the screen and this kick-starts the countdown on the 5×1 Portrait Digital Menus.

During the 30 minute countdown, content changes in a variety of ways, every 5 minutes, to highlight how long is left including a full screen promo takeover crescendo on both the 5×1 portrait digital menus and the 2×1 portrait digital menus.

Once the countdown has completed, the menu content on the 2×1 and 5×1 switch to the HOT NOW menu and promo content, the lights dim in store and the red HOT NOW sign above the serving counter, red LED lighting around the serving ‘hole in the wall‘ as well as the main store entrance sign all activate.

Technology used to deliver the HOT NOW experience:

  • 10″ POE touch screen tablet for countdown activation
  • Samsung Video Wall Screens with iBASE digital signage media players for 2×1 and 5×1 portrait menus
  • Mode Lighting Tiger Power Units with iBASE digital signage media player for lighting control
  • The content, device communication and light system integration is managed via embed signage
